Kisner Residence

A Platinum Certified USGBC LEED for Homes Project

making a home forges a connection between People and the world around them.

Well placed shaded porches spill into the yard and connect seamlessly to the interior.  The local sandstone and open beamwork echo the style of the National Parks.  A bird watching nook provides a great spot to have breakfast while special glazing hides your presence from your feathered friends.

The stone fireplace is faced with local river rocks and driftwood.  Recycled timber, and local dead standing Ponderosa pine support the roof and line the interior.   Using these materials makes ecological sense, helps the local economy, and creates a material connection to the place.  Even the stone countertops are made from local quartzite.

In contrast to wooden homes that require substantial maintenance, this home requires very little.  Roof shingles are not wood, but made from recycled surgical tubing.  Shading protects natural woods from direct UV exposure and weather.  Careful elevation and detailing mean Mr. Kisner can spend his time tending to the native plants and the landscape he loves, instead of maintaining his home.
